We Asked Meredith Tompkins; What Are Your Top Five Holiday Glitz Tips?

Local makeup artist and entrepreneur Meredith Tompkins was first recognized nationally for developing her Bella Faccia line of airbrush makeup and lipglosses. A lover of all things beauty-related, she shares her best tips for holiday glitz.

We Asked Meredith Tompkins; What Are Your Top Five Holiday Glitz Tips?

Put your best skin forward. “My first tip for holiday glitz is definitely healthy, hydrated skin,” says Tompkins. For a flawless look, make sure to exfoliate, use a silicone-based moisturizing primer and drink plenty of water, especially if you plan to enjoy a cocktail or two.

Get glowing. Take advantage of candlelit holiday events by adding a bit of shimmer to your upper cheekbones and browbones. “it makes you look really glowy…and radiant,” says Tompkins.

Pucker up. “Of course, I’m a lip fanatic,” says Tompkins, who has developed both a lipgloss and stain under her Kiss and Makeup line. Since holiday parties give your lips a workout with all the sipping, eating, kissing and talking, a lipstain is Tompkin’s go-to for staying power—perfect for layering for even more intense color.

Don’t stress about perfect hair. “I always tell my clients, the messier it is, the sexier it is,” says Tompkins, who also co-owns La Dolce Vita Salon & Spa. For a great holiday look, she recommends you use a volumizing mousse on damp hair, blow dry, then gather hair into a loose ponytail on the nape of the neck, up high or on the side. Twirl, pin, then finish the look with a sparkly headband or barrette.

For a final finish—nail art! The hottest trend right now—straight off the Chanel runway—is a reverse French manicure, which involves a color coat on the entire nail, then a contrasting half-moon of color along the cuticle. “Anybody can do it, it’s really different and beautiful, and it can work with long nails or short nails.”
