Young At Heart
We’ve all heard the stories of young athletes in the prime of their lives who’ve died suddenly from an unknown heart problem. It’s every parent’s nightmare—and now heart specialists are suggesting that a cardiac screening, along with a physical exam, might be warranted for young athletes participating in intensive sports such as football, basketball and soccer.
Doctors Hospital has begun offering a specialized cardiac screening program specifically for young athletes ages 12 to 22. The screening includes an electrocardiogram and a limited echocardiogram, designed to uncover important cardiac conditions that may go undiscovered in regular sports physical exams.
The $180 screening, which is not covered by insurance, is for those athletes with no history of cardiac symptoms. For more information, call 706-651-4343.
