IN SEASON: Clementines

These sweet, seedless mandarin oranges are a great snack. They’re portable, packable and easy to peel. Plus one Clementine contains only 35 calories, has 1.3 grams of fiber and 36 milligrams of vitamin C. This amount of vitamin C represents half of the daily recommended amount for women and one-third of the daily recommendation for men. One Clementine also has 18 micrograms of folic acid and 131 milligrams of potassium.

California Clementines have been widely available since the early 2000s, with the peak season being November through April. Eat them out-of-hand, add them to salads or fruit salsas for sweet hint of citrus or create a Clementine, yogurt and granola parfait. Just layer vanilla yogurt with granola and Clementine segments and enjoy for breakfast, as an afternoon snack a or healthy dessert.
