photography by John Harpring

Brian Killips teaches world history, AP psychology and coaches varsity soccer at Evans High School where he has taught for 12 years. He is also an assistant coach with Team in Training where he preps people for running events and triathlons, pastimes he also enjoys. He and his wife Heather are expecting their first child in February.

My single most important motivation to stay fit is...
To be an example for those I teach and coach.

Before I work out I always...
Make sure I have not eaten anything that will disagree with me! I also make sure I am properly hydrated and try to find someone to go with me.

My go-to energy snack is...
Nutella and pretzel sticks or peanut butter on toast.

I always make time for...
My wife and Alabama football.

The one thing I’m most proud of is...
Completing my first Ironman 70.3. On a personal note, I would also have to say serving with the Missionaries of Charity.

I love it when my students....
Come back after graduating and seek out teachers who made a difference in their lives.

One thing most people don’t know about me is...
I have been cage diving with great white sharks in South Africa.

The song that comes closest to describing me is...
I love music, so my answer will probably change in an hour.  Right now I would go with “Man on Fire” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

If I could spend a day with anyone living or deceased it would be...
Nick Saban or Anthony Bourdain.
