Publisher's Notes

For the fourth year, we present our popular Best of Auguta At Home section—25 home building and renovation categories that give you a glimpse of what Augusta Magazine readers view as the best in our market, from lumber company to countertops to flooring.  Readers began casting their ballots on our website at the first of the year and finished in late March. The results are featured in this issue after page 48.

If your home is your castle, you will want to take a look at our first, second and third place winners as you contemplate your home improvement projects, whether you are looking for new fencing, new lighting or new fabrics for your home.

When my husband and I were in the process of renovating and restoring a late 1800s house on the Hill, it was daunting at times to find the contractors and vendors who best understood the needs of redoing a house this age.  From finding someone to patch plaster, to a wood floor refinisher to cabinet maker, electrician, plumber and painters, the process of home building or renovation can be overwhelming, even when completing a seemingly small project, like redoing a bathroom.

Our winners are a good starting point for you. All the best in Augusta may not be listed, but these winners give you a good idea of businesses that have been used by our readers and that they now recommend to you.

The benefits to home ownership are many, from the obvious financial benefits for the homeowner to the economic impact it has on an entire community—builders, contractors, furniture and appliance stores—to name a few. And we can’t discount the stability home ownership brings to our neighborhoods, communities and families.

Congratulations to all of our Best of Augusta At Home winners, many of whom are well-established businesses in our area. Please consider them for your next home project. After all, the holidays and Masters are just around the corner!
