Nuclear 101

Funded through grants from the SRS Community Reuse Organization and the Lower Savannah Council of Governments, the Nuclear Workforce Institute at ATC is a six-week, radiation protection program geared toward economically disadvantaged youth, who can attend at no cost. Graduates receive a career-readiness certificate, a 40-hour hazardous waste operations and emergency response certificate and six hours of college credit. According to Steve Simmons, ATC’s dean of training and business development, students who have this program on their resumes will have the upper-hand when applying to a four-year college or entry-level position in the nuclear industry.
